Wellness and Active Aging at 55+
Information about “Wellness” abounds online, and like any information, can range in value depending on the source.  Physical wellness is only one facet, but plays an important role in overall wellness at any age.  This page contains some varied Wellness links that you may find helpful; please email the web team if you find others that might be useful to share!   
General Wellness:
  • The National Wellness Institute (NWI) website defines six dimensions of wellness and describes it as an “active process through which people become aware of, and make choices toward, a more successful existence”.
  • The University of California adds a seventh dimension, the environment and defines wellness:  “ ...The model used by our campus includes social, emotional, spiritual, environmental, occupational, intellectual and physical wellness. Each of these seven dimensions act and interact in a way that contributes to our own quality of life.
  • The More You Know, the better your health ... this site is a cross-company public service initiative focused on education, diversity, health, civic engagement and the environment.

Physical Exercise:  Helps the body and the brain. Studies show the
brain benefits from physical exercise.
Don't like to exercise?  Try a gentle Yoga or Dance class, swim, or play games.

  • The USDA Center for Nutrition Policy and Promotion works to improve the health and well-being of Americans by developing and promoting dietary guidance that links scientific research to the nutrition needs of consumers.

Medical News:  More medical practices are incorporating Wellness and Prevention into their business models, focusing on prevention of illness rather than just treatment.
